As the second largest nation of Arab land, Saudi is home to many natural wonders hidden among the sand dunes. Majestic rocky cliffs, green oasis with clear springs, looming cliffs with abundant signs of life are often things people don’t expect when visiting one of the Arabian countries. But this 4-day trip to Riyadh’s most beautiful sites will change anyone’s minds about this place. We step out from the bustling city to nature, and drive off to Al-Qara Hill, located outside Al-Ahsa, nestled in between the city and Al-Qarah Village. Also known as Jabal Al-Qarah, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for the natural rock formations and stunning cave systems. Locals have utilized this place as a backdrop to nearby venues for special occasions as guests can behold the beauty of nature’s architecture. And on rarer occasions, couples would visit for their wedding pictures as lights, walkways, and a museum has been established for tourism purposes. Bordering the lush green forest of 2.5 million palm trees is Al Ahsa Oasis, a historical region that’s dubbed the world’s largest oasis. It is a cultural landscape with a number of archaeological sites that reveal the lifestyle of its former inhabitants nearing the Persian Gulf, just over 60km away. Things older than old have been found and displayed at local museums, describing what may have been part of an ancient tradition from Neolithic Period (at least 3700 years ago). At the capital of Riyadh, amidst the metropolis lay the former home of the Sheik and his wife, the Murabba Palace, after they moved out of Masmak Fort. Erected outside the mud-walled city, that’s now considered the old town of the capital, it’s become a museum with artefacts displayed to tell their stories. You’ll have enough free time to do your own exploration while in Riyadh to visit the landmarks, or simply let your foot take you to places that invoke your curiosity of what else Saudi Arabia has to offer.
