Day 2: Full Day Historic Rio

  • Our tour will begin in Santa Teresa, a historic neighborhood located in the Central Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Perched atop a hill between the South and Central Zones of the city, it boasts a privileged view of these areas. Like its neighboring districts, Glória and Catete, Santa Teresa is renowned for its 19th-century historical buildings and elegant mansions constructed up until the 1940s. However, the neighborhood's main distinction lies in its preservation of the tram as a mode of transportation, the only one of its kind in the city that remains operational to this day. Next, we’ll head to the city center of Rio de Janeiro. Rio is full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Our exploration begins with the impressive Municipal Theater. After admiring its stunning façade and learning about the history of Cinelândia Square, we’ll continue to the Selarón Steps, a remarkable piece of street art created by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón. Thanks to its vibrant and colorful tiles, the staircase has become one of the most photographed spots in Rio. Nearby, we will find the Carioca Aqueduct, popularly known as the Arcos da Lapa. From there, we’ll stroll along Avenida Rio Branco, heading toward the historic Confeitaria Colombo. The tour will proceed through other iconic landmarks, such as the Arcos do Telles, the Imperial Palace, and the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel of the Old Cathedral. Its Royal Chapel is truly stunning! We’ll continue exploring other beautiful areas of the city, including the Tiradentes Palace, while enjoying views of Guanabara Bay. The tour will conclude at Praça XV de Novembro, after which we will return to the hotel and have dinner.
  • Overnight in Rio de Janeiro.

Next we will continue to the Archaeological Center of Sacsayhuamán, a multipurpose place where the Sun, the Moon and the Earth were worshiped, and which was also used as a military fortress and astrological center. Later we arrived at Q'enco, a cult center related to the element of fire. We continue with Puca Pucara, a place used as a supply center and Inca control post, where ceremonies were also held in the wind. (For this day you can request the option with lunch included) At the end of the tour we will arrive at Tambomachay, a center of worship for water and fertility. Return to the hotel and spend the night, where we will have dinner included.
