After landing in Leh, we’ll go on our first tour to Leh Palace, the former royal home on Tsemo Hill built in the 17th century and is over 9-storey tall. From the palace, we’ll drive not far to the Shanti Stupa that was built as a symbol of peace with a view so breathtaking you don’t want to leave. But we have to, lest we miss our visit to the Leh Market where you can buy souvenirs and need, given that you can communicate with the locals in their dialect. There’ll be an excursion to Sham Valley, which starts with a solemn visit to the Hall of Fame, a museum dedicated to the warriors that fought in the Indo-Pak wars. Then we drive to Gurudwara Patthar Sahib where Guru Nanak of Sikh is venerated and worshiped. As we drive through the Magnetic Hill, you’ll be able to see the fascinating phenomenon where cars roll up despite the ignition being off. We continue driving until we reach the Confluence of the Indus and Zanskar River of Nimmu Valley, a fascinating view of Zanskar Gorge from a distance from which the river slowly merges into one with the Indus. Then visit a series of monasteries, including the hilltop 11th century monastery of Spituk that houses many icons and statues. The Alchi Monastery is a center where several Buddhist shrines were built. You can see the different time periods this place has witnessed from the old paintings, temples, chortens, and carvings as you explore this place. Likir Monastery is part of Gelugpa monastic order of Tibetan Buddhism and the Lamayuru Monastery, located at over 3,500m/11,520ft height, used to brag its size that could house over 400 monks. As we drive through the highest road in the world, Khardung La, we’ll reach the beautiful Nubra Valley and enjoy a relaxing walk to look around the small, peaceful villages with the Himalayan ranges as our background. Try riding the double-humped camel to go back in time to where locals would traverse through the unusual sight of sand dunes with the snow-capped mountains in the horizon before we head to Diskit Monastery on our way back to Leh. We’ll finally make our way to Pangong Lake for the timeless view of the clear blue water. We’ll stop at Hemis Gompa, Thiksey Monastery, and the 17th century Shey Palace before finally stopping at the iconic 3 Idiots Rancho’s School.
